The lazy days of summer are upon us – at least in the Northern Hemisphere (apologies to all of our friends in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa). And for many of us, when the sun gets high in the sky we get a chance to catch up on our reading.
Here is what is on my reading list this summer:
1. “The Wikipedia Revolution” by Andrew Lih. Andrew is an old friend from here in Beijing who is returning to the U.S. to teach at the University of Southern California. I like Wikipedia because I want DHgate over time to evolve into more of a community, and I’m fascinated by how Nupedia became Wikipedia.
2. Pamela Slim’s “Escape from Cubicle Nation: From Corporate Prisoner to Thriving Entrepreneur”. Pamela has a terrific blog that I’ve been following for some time, and she really understands the challenges of building a business in these unique times. I like her because she approaches the subject not simply as a business, but as a personal journey.
3. “Colossus: How the Corporation Changed America” by Jack Beatty. I spend a lot of time beating up on the big boys, but at the same time to beat them you have to understand them, and that’s why I liked this book.
